Foundation Education for Girls of Gambia

Education is the best base for progress

When a girl goes to school, she will learn more than how to read, write, and do maths and language. She also learns how to stand up for herself, and what her fundamental rights are as a woman. This will help her throughout her life, give her opportunities, and be self aware of her own possibilities and self empowerment.

Education costs money

There needs to be money for teachers, school supplies, uniforms, shoes and schoolbags etc. Money does not come from the Government in Gambia. This means that the parents need to pay for all of this. For many parents this is a big, if not an impossible task. Most parents are very poor and have little to no income. If their children do get to go to school, this often means that sacrifices to food or other family expenses have to be made. The Foundation Education for Girls of Gambia tries to step up on a small scale, and some years with success, to help this target group. Gambia has no social system like the one we have in The Netherlands. The people of Gambia have nothing to fall back on. That is why our help is so much needed!
